Hello again! First, I’d like to thank everyone who went to the airport on Sunday to stand in solidarity with refugees and against the Muslim ban, it was truly inspiring and I am so proud of everyone that showed up. Second, Cain and I went to the new Masquerade last Monday and we were blown away! The show was pretty good, but what really surprised us was the unbelievably unique location, Kenny’s Alley. I had walked through before, but I didn’t pay it any mind. Now with the Masq drawing a good crowd a few nights a week, the potential of that area was really apparent. We walked around, looked through the dusty windows of gigantic abandoned bars and clubs with signs that said “open until 4am”, we couldn’t begin to imagine what it must have been like twenty years ago. So, thanks to the Masquerade for hopefully giving this little alley the spark it needs to be an attraction again.
Pretty slow week, here we go.
Faun and Pan Flute at the Earl – Tues Jan 31 : 8:30 : $8 : 21+
- Atlanta’s own experimental and collaboratively focused nontet o’ cool fellas grace The Earl’s stage with their expressionist and neo-classical tunes. It seems like each show of theirs is something different entirely, but it makes sense, given the nature of their music. Opening are Desertion Trio, with their spacy and dark americana jazz, seems super interesting. Sister Sai starts the show off at 9.
***Austra at Terminal West***- Wed Feb 1 : 7:30 : $17
- This will be an exceptional show! Touring their new album Future Politics, this will be a night full of spacey and emotional synth pop jams, perfect for Terminal West’s stage. I’d highly recommend this if you like The Knife or Phantogram. A good night to fall in love, perhaps. Our very own Dot.s will start the night off and they are heaps of fun!
Code Orange at the Masquerade – Sat Feb 4 : 7pm : $13 : all ages
- Youth Code open and I saw them open for clipping. a while back and they kick ass, that’s all I have to say about that.
Commited to Crime: Warehouse Rave – Sat Feb 4 : $5adv/$10@door
- I have no idea what this is but it looks like fun! It’s located at BonfireATL, 880 Woodrow St SW. Maybe go check it out if you’re free Saturday night!
That’s about it, have a good week, y’all!
The album of the week is Future Politics by Austra! Go to the show and check it out! Spotify link
AJ is a goofball who thinks he’s cooler than he actually is. Usually found reading comics at a bar, seeing a show, or getting his ass handed to him in smash bros. Loves watching movies, having hard opinions on things that don’t matter, and being cute.
