This Week in Music: 16 – 22 April

Welcome back! Plenty of cool shows coming up this week with two legendary guitarists, a violin virtuoso playing her favorite Beethoven piece, and a stacked weekend, including Sweetwater 420fest and Record Store Day 2018!  Wax n Facts will have special releases, free stuff for the first 144 folks, and a couple bands playing around 4pm! Criminal Records has a bit more going on, including a Run the Jewels signing at 2pm, Duet for Theremin and Lap Steel at 3pm, Curtis Harding at 4pm, Midnight Larks at 5pm, and finally an Organized Noize artist signing to round out the afternoon. There’s even a vegan bake sale! It’ll be packed. If you’ve never been to RSD, be warned that diehard fans tend to line up at the crack of dawn so they can get their hands on whatever limited release they have their eyes on so don’t expect to simply walk into the stores and browse. Still, it’s an exciting day and Criminal’s block party is always fun! Good luck digging through the crates, y’all.

What a week! Hopefully there’s something up your alley. Good luck on Record Store Day and y’all be safe during 420fest, don’t forget your sunscreen.

This week’s album is Far From Earth by Australian group Stonefield! I saw them play about a year or so ago, what an electric show. They have a very 70s rock n roll, stoner metal, Joni Mitchell style, but don’t let that put you off if you think it’s not your vibe. They’re super catchy and atmospheric. Probably pals with Tame Impala and King Gizzard and all those other Australian psych groups.
