There’s a crap ton of events going on this week, it’s hard to know which to attend but I’m pretty excited about possibly watching The Goonies at Monday Night Garage this Thursday. Anyway, here’s an extra beefy list of events for you this week, enjoy!


Atlanta Drunks & Dragons

Joystick Gamebar (427 Edgewood Ave SE) at 7pm

Every Monday and Tuesday starting at 7:00PM. New and inexperienced players are welcome. The organizer and seasoned dungeon masters can teach you how to play, help you make a new 5th edition character, and find you a spot in an ongoing game or a pick-up one-shot session. McKellen: Playing The Part

Landmark’s Midtown Art Cinema (931 Monroe Dr NE, Atlanta)

Broadcast live to cinemas nationwide from London’s BFI Southbank. In Playing the Part, audiences will have the opportunity to celebrate one of Britain’s true acting icons. Built around a 14 hour interview, Playing the Part uncovers Sir Ian McKellen’s story. From his upbringing living through the war, working through repertory and West End theatre becoming a pioneering stage star, coming out and being a leader in the campaign for equality, to his mainstream film breakouts as Magneto and Gandalf.

Head out to Diesel Filling Station in the Virginia Highlands for some Tuesday night nerd trivia. Test your nerdy knowledge each week, and win some sweet prizes. Hosted by: Booze Clues Trivia. Enjoy Nerd Trivia every Tuesday night at Diesel Filling Station.

Boardgames & Brew

Rhen’s Nest Toy Shop (924 Garrett Street) from 5:30-9pm

Join Rhen’s Nest Toy Shop as they unplug for monthly game night series every 3rd Tuesday of the month at Ponce City Market. They have a free library of games to play with or you can bring your own. The Tap on Ponce will be providing a discount for brew purchased during game night! Attendees that purchase games during the event at Rhen’s Nest will also enjoy a discount. It’s a win-win! Weekly Games will be running game night with Rhen’s Nest Toyshop.


8-Bit Comedy Night

1UP Comedy & NerdLanta bring in some of the highest ranked comics from all over the country to showcase their talent. With only 20 seats and limited standing room, it’s ATL’s most intimate comedy show. Named one of Five Cool Things to Discover in Atlanta by Rolling Stone Magazine. Beers and Brains at New Realm

New Realm Brewing (550 Somerset Terrace NE) 7pm-9pm

Come out and share a beer with some brainy folks for a session of “Beers and Brains” at New Realm Brewing! Beers and Brains is an exploratory series of talks + Q&As where we’ll invite artisans, activists, makers, doers and thinkers from all sorts of backgrounds to talk to us about their passion projects. Each speaker will conclude by answering any audience questions that arise. It’s brief. It’s brainy. There’s beer!

PlazaDrome Presents: Fantastic Planet

Plaza Atlanta (1049 Ponce de Leon Ave NE) at 9:30pm

Come out to the Plaza Theater for a special screening of the new 2K restored print of Rene Laloux’s animated sci-fi vision Fantastic Planet. Transport yourself to the distant and very weird planet of Ygam, where humans struggle as the enslaved pets of oppressive giant blue creatures.

Anthony Fantano at The Drunken Unicorn

The Drunken Unicorn (736 Ponce de Leon Ave NE) at 8:30pm – 10pm

Anthony Fantano of The Needle Drop makes a special appearance at The Drunken Unicorn. He’s described the live show as TEDtalks on Acid. The self-proclaimed music nerd will be talking about the music industry of course, along with many other topics. His character Cal will make a special appearance as well. If you’ve seen his videos, then you pretty much know what to expect. It all sounds like a good time to me.

Sh*t-faced Shakespeare: Romeo and Juliet

The Village Theatre (349 Decatur St SE) at 7:30pm

The name of this show is very fitting. The actors on stage are indeed shit faced drunk and you’ll most likely want to join in on the fun. Come see the world famous star-crossed lovers like you’ve never seen before playing at The Village Theatre throughout 2018. Tickets are now on sale! It’s the Capulets and Montagues with sword fights, doubling, and happy daggers galore. Always remember to enjoy Shakespeare responsibly.

View & Brew: The Goonies

Monday Night Garage (933 Lee St SW) at 7pm-10pm

Kick off your summer with View & Brew at the Garage! The best way to end a long summer day is with a movie, friends, and family, and of course, some tasty brews. This is the first-ever Monday Night movie series event, showing every third Thursday at the Garage. They got you covered on the beer, soda, and popcorn — you’ll just need your favorite chair or blanket for this classic adventure film. Adult tickets (21+) include the screening, popcorn, and a pint of our fresh, local beer (core or seasonal).


The Rocky Prom Rainbow Show

The Rocky Prom Rainbow show is a pride-filled show with special dance numbers from the Dixie Trixies. Make sure to dress in your prom finest!. Every Friday at Midnight, Lips Down On Dixie brings you one hell of a show featuring Atlanta’s longest running shadow cast. It’s an awesome way to spend your Friday night. Come watch this cult classic film with a whole bunch of fun loving people.

ELEAGUE Presents: Street Fighter V Invitational 2018

$250,000 on the line. The world’s top pro players will compete for the title of ELEAGUE Champion. Get up close to the action and watch the fight live in the ELEAGUE Arena in Atlanta. This right here sounds like a great time, and I really like the theme. Come watch some of the best Burlesque performers in the southeast show you how they dance as the world burns! Burlesque from the end of the world.

Coffin Classics: Goth Industrial Dance

Amsterdam Atlanta Bar (502 Amsterdam Ave NE) from 10pm-3am

Atlanta’s only Goth . Industrial. Darkwave music video night! Hosted by DJ/VJ Anthony every 4th Saturday of the month. Dance and watch music videos on multiple screens throughout the club. Great food served until 10:30pm. 2 separate bars with 12 draft beers and 73 bottles and can beers.

Mean Rock Band Karaoke

We’re busting out our PS4 and plastic guitars to see how much of a rock star you really are.
