This Week in Food From contributing writer Vas Sanchez
Keeping it chill this week in ATL May -14 through May 20
MONDAY:
free day
TUESDAY:
FREE WINE (tasting)
This week at Krog Streets Hop City, they are bringing back Porto Vino, an incredible Italian wine importer! The wines we often see from there stock can range from incredible classics to some unique and obscure grapes that will blow your mind. Be there from 5;30p-7:30p and see what these guys have to offer, and as usual, if you like it, chances are it something you can purchase right there in the store!
WEDNESDAY:
Master Piece Sichuan
3940 Buford Hwy, Duluth, GA 30096
(sorry. No website)
This is one of the absolute best restaurants in our city! Tucked away in a shopping center in Duluth, this refined sichuan restaurant creates dishes that clearly inspire its name! I have had many a dish here and have never been disappointed. Family owned and operated, Master Piece delivers the big bang of sichuan mouth numbing yumminess, with delicate and nuanced flavors, like tea smoked duck, or Mao’s Pork Belly. Grab some friends and run to this place as fast as you can. Order Everything!
THURSDAY:
http://www.theporterbeerbar.com
Head over to The Porter this week for “All American Craft Beer Week” and Allagash Brewing’s Tap Takeover! Allagash will be offering all the classics as well as many things that haven’t been seen in GA yet. This is one of my favorite places in the city to grab some elevated pub grub and killer beers. These guys are always doing something fun and special and they keep an extensive stock of wonderful craft brews and ciders. I love this food menu because it is all familiar but turned up just a notch, like the fried goat cheese fritters with honey, simple, but perfect and the best part is that offer pairings of beer to go with this food, so you can’t lose!
FRIDAY:
Finally got a chance to enjoy a meal here! These guys are great. Admittedly, Im still new to Laotian cuisine, so I was just sort of “pointing and clicking” on the menu but everything was great! Laos has a beauty to its cuisine that is reminiscent of Thailand but has influences from all over asia and is still uniquely all its own. The “Beef Jerky” was awesome, dried and flash fried, this dish has such a fun texture and an addictive flavor. The pork belly, sausage, and green papaya salad were all incredible. This green papaya salad was the closest thing Ive had in the city to the ones I used to enjoy while in Thailand! These guys are really doing something special here!
SATURDAY:
LanZhou Ramen
5231 Buford Hwy NE, Doraville, GA 30340
Hand pulled noodles! These guys are maybe the only place in Atlanta doing this traditional style of noodle making, and they have a window for you to watch them do it! LanZhou serves a very traditional style of “Ramen” or “Lo mean.” This style is a bit different from the Japanese soup version everyone is becoming more familiar with. This place is focuses on the chinese style and some believe the original style! The noodles can be done with a broth or as a sauced dish, either option is wonderful! Get some pan fried dumplings and veggies of any kind to round out this experience. This is truly a rare and special gem in our city!
SUNDAY:
free day.
