Comedy Highlights: May 9-14

Atlanta has one of the best damn comedy scenes in the country. If you’re looking to laugh (and you damn well better be!), check out one of these shows. 

1. Hodgepodge Comedy Show at Hodgepodge Coffeehouse – Tues, 5/9 at 7pm

If you’re looking for something to do tonight, head over to Hodgepodge in EAV. Comedy is back at the lil coffee shop courtesy of Allison Carroll. This bi-monthly showcase features folks like Cherith Fuller, Tom Russell, and more. Grab a scone and take a seat for some Tuesday night entertainment.

2. Ali Wong at The Tabernacle – Fri, 5/12, 2 shows

The Tabernacle is one of the coolest venues in Atlanta, so we’re always thrilled when the host comedians. This Friday, Ali Wong headlines two shows. She’s hot off her Netflix special, Baby Cobra, which she filmed while pregnant. She will also be co-starring in the ABC sitcom “American Housewife.” First show starts at 7pm, second at 9:30pm.

3. Laughs Trump Hate at Highland Ballroom – Fri, 5/12 at 8:30pm

Oh god, what a long year it’s been. Ease the pain of 2017 by laughing your ass off at Laughs Trump Hate. This philanthropic showcase will donate proceeds to Lost and Found Youth: an Atlanta-based nonprofit organization whose mission is to take homeless lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender youths up to age 25 off the street and transition them into more permanent housing. The show features such local gems as Andrew Markle, Powell Mansfield, Caroline Schmitt, Julie Osborne, and more. Tickets are $10.

4. Heather McDonald at City Winery – Fri, 5/12 at 8pm

“Chelsea Lately” fans are well-aware of Heather McDonald, a writer and regular panelist on the show. She’s also a best-selling writer and a stellar comedian. The multi-faceted McDonald performs at City Winery this Friday. Tickets start at $30.
