Comedy Highlights: Feb. 13-19

Atlanta has one of the best damn comedy scenes in the country. If you’re looking to laugh (the world is on fire, you need this), check out one of these shows.

1. Best of ATL @ Laughing Skull – Tues, 2/14 at 8pm

It’s Valentine’s Day… which I guess is cool. Whether you’re single or in a relationship, everyone can enjoy a night of Atlanta’s top local jokesmiths at a special Valentine’s Day edition of the Laughing Skull’s ever popular Best of Atlanta showcases. You know there will be nothing good on TV Tuesday so get out of the house and see some live comedy. Tickets start at $15.

2. Date Night @ Argosy – Tues, 2/14 at 8:30pm

Well this is an obvious answer to what you should do with your V-Day plans. It’s called Date Night after all. This monthly showcase is held in the super cool game room of Argosy in EAV. Tickets are $5 per person or per couple so you and your significant other can save your money for booze and presents you swore you weren’t exchanging this year! South Carolina’s Jenn Snyder closes out this month’s shindig. Doors open at 8pm.

3. Ms. Pat @ Laughing Skull – 6 shows, Thurs thru Sun

A hometown hero returns to the Skull this week. The sharp and hysterical Ms. Pat got her comedy start in Atlanta before headlining clubs around the country. She’s performed on BET’s “Comicview,” Comedy Central’s “This is Not Happening,” and NBC’s “Last Comic Standing.” You have six chances to see her live this week with shows Thursday through Sunday.

4. Hari Kondabolu @ Center Stage – Fri, 2/17 at 9pm

He’s been called “one of the most exciting political comics in stand-up today,” by the New York Times. Wise and always frank, Kondabolu has become a favorite amongst NPR shows and late night. He’s performed on “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” “David Letterman,” and “Conan” as well acting as a writer and on-air contributor to FX’s “Totally Biased with W. Kamau Bell.” He headlines Atlanta’s Center Stage this Friday accompanied by Liz Miele and our own David Perdue. Tickets start at $17.

5. WonderComedy Presents Michael Rowland @ Cabbagetown Community Center – Fri, 2/17 at 9pm

Sadly, WonderRoot has closed its doors. It’s not gone, just moving to a new location. While we wait for the new digs to get all set up, WonderComedy is chugging along and will host its next show at the Cabbagetown Community Center. Gems like Samm Severin and Dedrick Flynn will round out the show, headlined by the energetic Michael Rowland. Doors still open at 8:30pm, tickets still $5, show still BYOB.
