Comedy Highlights: April 17-23

Atlanta has one of the best damn comedy scenes in the country. If you’re looking to laugh (and you damn well better be!), check out one of these shows.

1. News Flash @ Village Theatre – Thurs, 4/20 at 9pm

Normally the second Thursday of the month, News Flash is coming at ya with hot topical jokes this week. It’s like SNL’s Weekend Update (but with integrity). Returning champ Rara Imler will try to defend her title against five hilarious comics with stand-up inbetween from Paige Bowman, David Perdue (not the senator, thanks), and yours truly. Hot damn, indeed. Doors open at 8:30pm. $5.

2. Andy Hendrickson @ Highland Ballroom – Fri, 4/21 at 8pm

No two-drink minimun required; come see nationally touring comedian Andy Hendrickson headline one of Atlanta’s most gorgeous venues, the Highland Ballroom. He’s done Letterman, Craig Ferguson, and more and he’ll be joined be local gems Lace Larrabee and David Perdue. Tickets are $15 in advance so grab them now a save a few bucks.

3. WonderComedy Presents Mia Jackson @ Cabbagetown Community Center – Fri, 4/21 at 9pm

The pride of Atlanta, Mia Jackson will bring her sharp wit to this month’s WonderComedy. She’s a favorite to open for Amy Schumer, was a semi-finalist on NBC’s “Last Comic Standing,” was named one of Creative Loafing’s “People to Watch,” and is one of the most hilarious and likeable comics in our great city. Show is BYOB as always. Doors open at 8:30pm. $5.

4. SweetWater 420 Fest @ Centennial Olympic Park – 4/21-23

This is a music event but did you know 420 Fest has a comedy tent? They sure do, you idiot! See your favorite bands sandwiched between your favorite local comics, plus headliners Jon Rudnitsky and Jake Nordwind all weekend. Single day and weekend passes are still available.

5. Surrogates @ Relapse – Fri, 4/21 at 10:30pm

ATLtoDo’s own Ian Aber runs one of the most delightfully bizarre comedy shows in town and it’s coming back to the Relapse Theatre this week. Comics will pair up with random audience members and fitted with walkie-talkie headsets as they feed them jokes line-by-line. If you ever wanted to try stand-up, this might be the right show for you. It’s funny, it’s weird, it’s nothing you’ve ever seen before. $5.
