Comedy Highlights: May 1-7

Atlanta has one of the best damn comedy scenes in the country. If you’re looking to laugh (and you damn well better be!), check out one of these shows.

1. Laughing Skull Comedy Festival – All week, 5/1-8

The big hoorah this week is Skull Fest aka the Laughing Skull Comedy Festival. Taking over the whole city, Skull Fest spans eight days of showcases at venues like Red Brick Brewing, Relapse Theatre, Eddie’s Attic, and more. Eighty comics will vie for the top four spots plus prize money including possibly the largest collection of local acts than every before (16 in total) with folks like Mia Jackson, LaVar Walker, our friend Ian Aber, Paige Bowman, Cherith Fuller, Kevin Saucier, Brian Emond, and more. The big finale goes down Saturday night at the Buckhead Theatre, so place your bets now.

2. Jake & Amir at Relapse – Mon, 5/1 at 8pm

For something quite different, check out the live podcast recording of Jake & Amir’s “If I Were You.” The comedy duo are best known for their hugely popular CollegeHumor web-series which made them one of the first big sketch groups of the Youtube era of online comedy as well as their follow-up project, their comedy/advice podcast. Doors open at 7pm; tickets start at $25.

3. Comedy & Cocktails at City Winery – Wed, 5/3 at 8pm

Cool-ass City Winery hosts comedy again with a short-and-sweet line-up of comedy gems. Folks like Jarrod Harris, Lace Larrabee, Dedrick Flynn and more will provide the jokes for you while you sip on cocktails and whatever else floats your boat. Doors open at 6pm; tickets are $20.

4. Ladie’s Night at Village Theatre – Thurs, 5/4 at 10:30pm

The boys are back and they’re bringing with them new sketches from all over Atlanta’s film community. Five submissions will be judged on by the audience as well as a few guest-judges with the winner taking home a sweet trophy plus an automatic spot in next month’s show. There will also be stand-up inbetween and banter! Glorious, glorious banter. Tickets start at $5 and are cheaper in advance so jump to it.
